The Brief

We’ve had the pleasure of working with the Badges Plus team for over 15 years, supporting them through multiple evolutions of their online presence. The previous version of their website had a strong character-led design, which served the brand well for many years. However, as their business and audience matured, it was the right time to refresh the look and feel with a more modern, minimalistic approach.

For this latest version, we shifted towards a cleaner, more refined visual style that better reflects the company’s growth and professionalism. The new design focuses on simplicity, ease of navigation, and clear presentation of products and services—making it more accessible and intuitive for users across all devices.

The website was built on the WordPress platform with a fully bespoke design tailored specifically to Badges Plus. This allows their team to easily manage content and update the site as needed, while ensuring the structure, design, and functionality are aligned with their long-term goals. The result is a future-ready platform that balances visual appeal with practical performance.

The Approach

Our approach to the new Badges Plus website began with a deep understanding of their evolving brand and customer base. After years of working together, we recognised that their online presence needed to move away from a character-focused design and towards something more refined and commercially driven. We started with a discovery phase to assess their current content, user behaviours, and business goals. This allowed us to outline a clear design direction that prioritised simplicity, professionalism, and ease of use.

Design-wise, we focused on creating a clean, minimal interface that aligned with modern web standards while remaining true to the Badges Plus identity. The goal was to improve navigation, highlight key products, and make the purchasing journey more efficient for users. We used clear visual hierarchies, consistent styling, and white space to allow content to breathe and guide visitors naturally through the site. Accessibility and responsiveness were also key, ensuring the site performs equally well on desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

On the development side, we chose WordPress as the platform due to its flexibility and ease of content management. A fully bespoke theme was created from the ground up to support both current functionality and future scalability. We integrated product display features, enquiry forms, and backend tools tailored to Badges Plus’s workflow. The final product is a user-focused website that looks polished, performs smoothly, and gives the team full control over updates and growth moving forward.

Branding

For the latest Badges Plus website project, the existing branding was retained to ensure consistency and familiarity for returning customers. The logo, colour palette, and core visual identity remained unchanged, preserving the brand’s long-established presence in the market.

The most notable change in this redesign was the removal of the character illustrations that had been a key part of the previous site. While these visuals had served their purpose in the past, Badges Plus wanted to evolve their online image to better reflect their growth and position as a leading supplier in their industry.

By removing the character elements, we were able to introduce a cleaner, more corporate aesthetic. This shift allowed the focus to move toward the products, services, and professionalism of the business, while still maintaining the approachable tone that customers associate with the Badges Plus brand.

Web Design

From a development perspective, the Badges Plus website was built entirely on the WordPress platform using a fully bespoke theme. This custom approach allowed us to develop a site that is not only tailored to the unique needs of the business but also optimised for performance, security, and scalability. Every element of the build—from the layout structure to interactive components—was coded from scratch to ensure full control over functionality and visual consistency. We prioritised clean, efficient code to support fast load times and a smooth user experience across all devices.

In addition to front-end development, we implemented a user-friendly CMS setup, giving the Badges Plus team full flexibility to manage and update content without technical assistance. Key features include editable product pages, flexible banners, and modular content blocks, all built to grow with the business. We also integrated SEO best practices and performance enhancements alongside SEM Consultants to ensure the site is not only visually strong but also technically sound and ready to rank well in search engines.
