West Midlands Media was founded in late 2006 by Faisal and Duncan, Duncan had previously worked for an online marketing company for 6 years and Faisal had a wealth of experience in the customer service sector, so together they came up with a business plan to set up an online marketing and media company that removed all of the negatives that Duncan had previously heard about from clients who informed him of the issues that web design companies had faced them with as a client and implemented both Faisal's and Duncan's excellent customer service into the mix.
In 2007 the business quickly moved forward even though at this point West Midlands Media didn't have its own website nor did it have any portfolio due to being a new company, Duncan was attending appointments and creating new business while Richard was building the websites. Two months into 2007 West Midlands Media already had far more work than what we could handle so we began to look for a new developer and come across Danny Hayfield who came on board as a junior developer but quickly moved on to be West Midlands Media's Senior Developer as his client liason and programming skills developed at an outstanding pace. At this point Duncan realised we had to up our game to be the best in the West Midlands and he contacted a colleague who he had known for a while namely Luke Green who was working at a big design agency at the time and agreed to do West Midlands Media's graphic design out of hours of his job, West Midlands Media continued to get stronger and needed more and more of Luke's time so Luke decided to make the leap and give West Midlands Media his full time and attention.
By August 2007 West Midlands Media took on another developer Jonathan Moore who's customer service was absolutely brilliant, Danny helped train Jon to his standards and by this time West Midlands Media was getting great reviews and referrals from clients and Jon has gone on to be a key member of the WMM team. In late 2007 we got to know Flash Joe who is our resident illustrator/photographer and meeting Joe just brought to life many new opportunities to bring our designs alive and to the next level with animations.
2008 soon came around and it was then time to relocate to somewhere bigger and a place that we could brand as our own, so West Midlands Media moved into 2 shops with our sister company that Mark Hickman and Duncan Price set up called SEM Consultants to cover all of the search engine marketing needs for our clients. So 2008 started with a couple of big changes and made us feel like we were a force to be reckoned with as we were now geared up for all media services and now had the right team to stand tall and start making our mark. West Midlands Media continued to get even busier which was great news especially being in the middle of a recession at the time. In March 2008 it was time to recruit a couple more members of staff so Luke took on Mike Fryers as a junior designer and Mike is now a phenomenal designer who alongside Luke really puts us on the map. It was also time for another junior developer and after knowing Sean for a while he was taken on as a junior to be the middle person between our designers and developers making sure everything is ready for the transition between design and development which helped speed the whole process up. A couple of months later and again its time for another developer to come on board and this person was Mark Tooth, Mark had just passed his degree and was ready for action on the front line. Duncan was now spending all of his time on appointments and was too busy to project manage so now it was time to find a sales consultant that fitted into the team that had good experience but didn’t have the double glazing salesman approach, by luck and pure coincidence Duncan bumped into Paul Cook an old friend who had a very strong sales consultancy background and within a few weeks Paul was joined us as Sales & Marketing Manager and became the face of West Midlands Media.
In the second part of 2009 we are still raising our profile and getting even busier so in October we decided to take on another developer Adam Preece who was self taught in website development but had no working experience so WMM took Adam on to be trained by Danny and is already a great member of the team and is diligent in his role and like all our other staff is driven by what we do and forever trying to push the barriers on want can be achieved online.
West Midlands Media continues to strive to be the best web design agency in the West Midlands and with all the team's enthusiasm, drive, professionalism and skills we know this is well within our reach to have this position and are already getting plans together for 2010 to move forward by taking on jobs further afield and pushing the team to at least another 3 members. What makes us stand out from the rest is our passion for what we do and our commitment to work with our clients to a successful and satisfactory conclusion.
